Manning Cup|Quarter Final
2023 Manning Cup Quarter Final. St. George’s College vs Jamaica College.
St. George’s College fought off a determined Jamaica College to end 1-1 thus earning a semi-final spot in the 2023 Manning Cup.
Looking tactically organized and knowing that only a win would allow them the chance to defend their title, the Dark Blues dominated the game from early. We were forced to defend as our opponent created a number of chances. Goalkeeper D’Jone Davis was outstanding as he made a number of breath-taking saves to keep our opponents out.
In the 45th minute, a clumsy tackle on midfielder, Zabir Taylor lead to a penalty in which Burkett calmly put away.
In the second half, the pattern of play continued with JC continuing to press. In the 60th minute, JC’s Johnson received a ball that spit our defense to equalize at 1-1.
From then on, it was clear that the Knights had to reorganize to a more defensive orientation. With determined defending and with goalie D’Jone continuing to make remarkable stops, the Knights held out for the draw.
It was a day when the Lord felt favor with the Light Blues. We now have a real opportunity at taking the Championship.
We need two good performances for this to happen.
Come again Georgian Knights!! The battle continues!!
