STGC vs Campion [manning cup]

The Knights had a generally good game against Campion this afternoon.

With a modest crowd in attendance, we looked really good in all departments in the first half. We created a number of chances and Campion had very little breathing space as they were pinned down in their half.

Teysean and Burkett would score for the Knights. We ended the first half 2-0 up.

In the second half, we started very positively, clearly hunting more goals to make a definitive statement. We created a few openings and really should have scored on a number occasions.

Midway in the second half, we lost concentration and intensity. Campion was then able to dominate and launched a number of probing attacks. However, the Knights were rarely threatened as our opponents did not get a single shot at goal.

We ended the game on a positive note with coach Bell making a few changes to inject impetus back into our game. We started to regain the dominance and in the last few minutes of the game, a long ball from the right wing found substitute Matthew Spence in the perfect position to fire a ferocious volley just outside the penalty area.

All in all, the team looks good. The defense, which has been problematic for us in the last two seasons, looks competent.

The Knights are clearly capable of doing well going forward.
