Remembering Jesuit Father Francis J. Ryan [1926-2024]

Frank was born in Dorchester, MA, on March 19, 1926, entered the Society on Jesus on July 1, 1943, at Shadowbrook in Lenox, MA, and was ordained on June 16, 1956, at Weston College in Weston, MA. He pronounced his Final Vows at St.Ignatius Church, Brown’s Town, St. Ann, Jamaica on August 26, 1989.

In 2006 Father Ryan was inducted into the STGC Hall of Fame, along with five other recipients.

“Father Francis Joseph Ryan, S.J. has spent 50 years dedicating his time and making significant contribution to the quality of education and religious instruction in Jamaica. His passion lies with helping others and he works diligently to improve society. Father Ryan grew up in Boston, Massachusetts, where he earned both his B.A. and master’s degrees from Boston College. In 1950, he began his teaching career in Jamaica at St. George’s College, where he taught a wide array of subjects which included religion, history and Latin.”—- [ Jamaica Gleaner Company Ltd ]

Fr. Francis J. Ryan, S.J. taught at St. George’s College, while living in Jamaica for over 50 years. He worked in Browns Town and in St. Catherines.
