St. George’s College Pre-University [6th Form] School Leaving Ceremony.
The Pre-University [6th Form] School Leaving Ceremony for the Class of 2024 took place last Tuesday, 30th April, 2024, under overcast skies.
The large group of about a hundred ladies and gentlemen came out looking oh so very sharp on the occasion.
Fr. Rohan Tulloch, S J., Board Chairman welcomed the gathering. In his remarks, he observed that ‘it takes a village to educate a child’. Here at St. George’s College not only the teachers and administrators take part in the educational process but our secretaries, support staff and persons who work in other areas of the school, contribute in the overall development of our students. We cultivate an environment of love and everyone is important in the process of education.
Mrs. Margaret Campbell, Principal, in her remarks pointed out that Catholic Education seeks to groom individuals to be responsible persons who use their God given talents to contribute for the good of our community. We seek to instill a mindset which promotes men and women of action by using the life and teachings of Jesus Christ as a model to follow.
Guest speaker, Dr. Ronaldo Black graduated from St. George’s College 6th form in 2016. He completed his medical degree in 2022. The Mandeville native is about to start post- graduate studies in anesthesiology.
In his short but spicy address, he pointed out that he graduates should acknowledge and show gratitude to all who have supported you to reach this point; parents, teachers, administrators, school support staff, family and friends.
Some measure success by the amount on your pay cheque, professional recognition but the really true measure is by how you impact the society in a positive way.
He noted that many will choose traditional professions but the world today sees other areas emerging; AI, investment opportunities, cybersecurity and opportunities in the creative arts. He encouraged the graduates to think big, expect road blocks but press on and work through them. Know that success is a journey.
The occasion had lively musical presentations and addresses from members of the Class.
