Tribute to Winston Wilson and Maurice Rhoden
Sunday June 28,2015…

On Sunday, June 28, 2015, there was a gathering of approximately 40 Old Boys to honour the work of their mentors, Winston “Milo or Vosotros” Wilson and Maurice “Spree” Rhoden. It was a 20 over cricket match to celebrate and relive the glory days of STGC cricket.
Mr. Wilson has served as a cricket coach and a teacher at St. George’s College since 1970. Under Mr. Wilson’s guidance as head coach of the cricket programme, STGC has won all major age group trophies which includes, Under 14, Under 16, Sunlight Cup, Tappin Cup and the A-League trophy. He has also produced a West Indies Under 19 player, several Jamaican Under 19 and Under 15 players, several Senior Cup players and a ton of quality batsmen and bowlers. Most importantly, the majority of his players have excelled academically with some turning out to be medical doctors, engineers, a university professor and successful business executives and most importantly, responsible young men.
Maurice Rhoden, founder and owner of Crimson Dawn Manufacturing has been a long time supporter and donor to both the football, cricket programs and indeed the other sports. He has been part of the management teams for the football and cricket squads over the years.
It was a beautiful Sunday filled with joy and laughter as most of us had not seen each other since they left school. The Old Boys were mostly from the the 1980’s, 1990’s and 2000’s. Some memorable character showed up were; Big Hutchy, Little Hutchy, Chin, Ardenne, Chatty Mouth, Inzamam Ul Plak, GoGo, Fada, Smerv, Herbine, Goodison, Professor Cresser, Richie Gordon, Russell Lee and many many more.
Special thanks to Carlington “Smerv” Ebanks for organizing this memorable event.
On a personal comment, I wish to remind all my Georgians brothers that we need to recognize our ‘heroes’ while we have the opportunity. Many are in their senior years and we should recognize them now.
Let’s don’t leave it for later. Let’s reach out for our teachers and classmates and embrace them while we can.
Peace and Love,
Peter E. Chang
