A Tribute to John Preston STGC Class of 1973.
A Tribute to John Preston from the Class of 1973, St. George’s College.
It is with profound sadness that we, the classmates of 1973, bid farewell to John Preston, a remarkable individual whose life was a testament to decency, dedication, and excellence. John was not only a cherished friend and classmate but also a dedicated husband and father. He was a source of inspiration to all who had the privilege of knowing him. His passing leaves a real void, but his memory remain vivid in our minds.
JP’s journey began alongside many of us in high school at St. George’s College in 1968. The son of the late Aston Z. Preston, the late Vice- Chancellor of the University of the West Indies, Johnny was very competent at his school work and vision himself working in the field of electronics. He was soft spoken, well-mannered and humble. His views were very progressive and he was always respectful in our group discussions.
After our time at St. George’s, John embarked on a career that was unique. He began as a junior electronic technician at the UWI Electronics Laboratory, where his talent and work ethic quickly became evident. From there, he ventured into the field of nuclear sciences at the International Centre for Environmental and Nuclear Centre at UWI. He established himself as a skilled and dedicated Senior Engineer/ Reactor Manager in this highly specialized field. His work in the nuclear lab was marked by precision, integrity, and a relentless pursuit of excellence. It was during his tenure at the lab that John met the love of his life, his wife, Stacey with whom he built a beautiful and fulfilling partnership. Together, they flourished, creating a loving home and raising a family that became the center of John’s world.
John’s professional achievements were matched only by his devotion to his family. He was not only a brilliant engineer but also a devoted husband and a dependable father. He led by example, showing his children the values of hard work, kindness, and integrity. His family was his pride and joy, and he embraced his role as a father with unwavering commitment and love. John’s ability to balance his demanding career with his responsibilities at home was nothing short of admirable. He became a model father, a pillar of strength, and a source of endless support for his loved ones.
Beyond his professional and personal accomplishments, John was a man of great character. He was kind, generous, and always willing to lend a helping hand. His humility and warmth made him a beloved figure among his colleagues, friends, and classmates. John had a unique ability to connect with people, to make them feel valued, and to inspire them to reach for their own potential. He was a mentor, a leader, and a true friend.
John leaves his wife, Stacey, his children Amanda, Noah and Eli, sister Caroline, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
To John Preston—thank you for the laughter, the wisdom, and the inspiration. You will be deeply missed, but never forgotten. Rest in peace, dear friend and classmate.
