What an unforgettable highlight of St. George’s College’s 175th anniversary celebrations!

On February 14, 2025, our Principal, Mrs. M. Campbell, People, Brand and Culture Coordinator, Ms. S. Danhi, and a delighted group of students had the extraordinary privilege of visiting one of our most treasured alumni—Mr. Donald Maxwell, a remarkable 99-year-old and one of our longest-living Georgians.

Full of life and sparkling with energy, Mr. Maxwell welcomed us warmly and treated everyone to a treasure trove of captivating stories from his days at the College. His memories came alive with such vivid detail that it felt as though we were stepping back in time!

A true all-rounder, Mr. Maxwell excelled both on and off the field. His standout athletic achievements from 1941 to 1943 included:

• Cricket, Track and Field (where he soared in pole vaulting), Swimming, Lawn Tennis, and Football (Manning Cup)—and in 1943, he proudly captained the Manning Cup team all the way to the finals!

But his legacy goes far beyond the sports field. As a hugely popular and committed student leader, he perfectly embodied the Georgian spirit of excellence, camaraderie, and community. His infectious enthusiasm and razor-sharp recollections left our current students spellbound, forging an inspiring and heartfelt connection to the College’s proud history and enduring traditions.

Our First and Sixth Form students jumped at the chance to ask thoughtful questions—and even traded a few light-hearted jokes about life at St. George’s today. Laughter filled the room as past and present Georgians bonded in the most joyful way.

This visit was nothing short of magical—a true celebration of legacy, loyalty, and the timeless Georgian spirit. We are deeply grateful to Mr. Maxwell’s family for opening their home and hearts, allowing us to share in this priceless experience.

Here’s to many more moments that bring our Georgian family closer together!
